About Us
Traveler
I have always loved exploring and some of my favorite experiences include:
-
Winning a Lonely Planet photography contest and embarking on a year-long solo backpacking trip around the world.
-
Securing the Hostelling International Explore the World scholarship to help fund a self-led, two-month journey in India with my partner, where we taught workshops and met with organizations pioneering recycled waste initiatives.
-
Spending two summers in Princeton, New Jersey for an internship at Educational Testing Services. Road tripped there and back from Texas, camping along the way. Went on adventures every weekend with my bike.
-
Embarking on two long-distance bicycle camping trips: One down the west coast of the United States; the other through the Czech Republic, Germany, and Poland.
-
Serving on AIESEC, a student-run volunteer organization that assists students in finding professional internships abroad and promoting cross-cultural exchange.
-
Participating in a summer Arabic study abroad program at Yarmouk University in Irbid, Jordan.
-
Taking my grandma on an adventure around Costa Rica when she was in her eighties so she could fulfill her dream of visiting another country.
-
Hosting hundreds of international travelers through Couchsurfing.com, Be Welcome, Warm Showers, and Airbnb.
I love backpacking and visiting new places whenever I can (see red on map). Lately though, I've been enjoying staying rooted and finding adventures in my own backyard.
Lela's Traveling Socks
Here are some pages of a self-published book I made in 2010. It chronicles the travels of my friend’s hand-knitted socks, which I wore on a year-long trip around the world.
